The Cold War was a time of great tension between the United States and the Soviet Union. This period of tension began in the aftermath of World War II and lasted until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

The Cold War was a global conflict fought primarily through political and economic means. However, there were also several "hot" moments during the Cold War, when the two superpowers came close to nuclear war.

The Cuban Missile Crisis

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.

The crisis began in October 1962, when the United States discovered that the Soviet Union was secretly building nuclear missile bases in Cuba. President John F. Kennedy demanded that the Soviets remove the missiles, and he ordered a naval blockade of Cuba.

The two superpowers were on the brink of war for 13 days. However, on October 28, 1962, the Soviets agreed to remove the missiles from Cuba in exchange for a US pledge not to invade Cuba.

The Berlin Wall Crisis

The Berlin Wall Crisis was a series of confrontations between the United States and the Soviet Union that took place in the divided city of Berlin.

The crisis began in August 1961, when the East German government began building a wall to divide the city of Berlin. The wall was intended to prevent East Germans from fleeing to the West.

The United States and its allies protested the construction of the wall, and they threatened to take military action if the Soviets did not remove it.

The Berlin Wall Crisis lasted for several years, and it was one of the most tense moments of the Cold War.

The Cold War was a time of great tension between the United States and the Soviet Union. The two superpowers came close to nuclear war on several occasions, but they were ultimately able to resolve their differences through diplomacy.

The Cold War ended in 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union. The collapse of the Soviet Union marked the end of the bipolar world order that had existed since the end of World War II.
